Greetings from the Magnard Ensemble and the first of our e-newsletter!

Momentum is certainly in our favour at the moment as we dance and prance towards the festive season. October saw the release of our DEBUT CD - 'Revolting Rhymes and Marvellous Music'. The disc contains the works that we toured the country with to celebrate Roald Dahl's centenary year, and charted at 29 in the Classical Artists Chart. We are absolutely thrilled with how well received the CD has been, and thank everyone who has bought a copy already. Keep your eyes peeled in the BBC Music Magazine for our 4 star review:

‘Bright performances of deliciously dark fairy tales and macabre verses by Roald Dahl. Clever quotations and musical onomatopoeia aplenty.’

Needless to say, the CD’s excellent blend of thrilling rhymes and exciting music would make a fantastic Christmas stocking filler - since we're in the charts, Christmas number 1 perhaps...?! Joking aside, do spread the word! Links below:

We also had other thrilling news this autumn - we are delighted to have been awarded positions on both the Tillett Trust's young artists platform as well as the Tunnell Trust's awards scheme. This means that we very excitedly have performances across both England and Scotland at festivals and for music societies, beginning in 2018 and running through 2019 and 2020.Details of all the dates will be added to our website as they are confirmed: https://www.magnardensemble.org/diary. We hope to see you at a concert soon!

More recently, we enjoyed a concert we gave at the Nicholas Yonge society in Lewes. I (Jon) grew up in the local area and was delighted to return to my former sixth form college where the concert took place. A review of the concert can be found below:

Other recent concerts have included fun visits to Farnham Maltings and Ludlow Assembly Rooms - thank you so much to all who joined us in our music making.

Before we go into our winter hibernation, we have been busy planning ahead and keeping up to date with each other. The thing I love about being part of this group is how much everyone does to keep us running - we all pull in the same direction and now have such a well oiled machine in motion. A couple of meetings loom, with very exciting collaborations on the horizon - hopefully more on those next time round...

Until then!

Jon
